Concept and Masterplan Architect and Lead Consultant
The team assumes the pivotal role of master planners and lead architects for the development of sites W2 and W3 within the esteemed King's Cross development, colloquially referred to as the Triangle site. This ambitious project encompasses a mixed-use development, characterized by residential apartments situated above commercial units and basement parking facilities. The architectural layout is oriented around a central public courtyard situated within site W2, while site W3 hosts a sports center, office space, and a crèche.
This comprehensive scheme encompasses over 6,000 square meters of residential floorspace, comprising a diverse range of housing options, including 36 Social Rented, 23 Intermediate, and 19 Open Market apartments, each complemented by communal spaces designed to foster community engagement.
Notably, the project site is delineated by the boundary between the London boroughs of Camden and Islington, necessitating planning permissions from both administrative entities. Moreover, the project faced inherent challenges posed by the presence of a railway line adjacent to one boundary and a Thameslink tunnel beneath, underscoring the necessity for extensive consultation and coordination with Network Rail and Thameslink authorities.
In its capacity as the masterplan architect, the team assumed leadership in designing and coordinating the architectural approach for the development, collaborating closely with the architect responsible for Block W1, situated within the same site. The collaborative effort yielded a cohesive family of buildings characterized by shared design accents while maintaining distinct individual features. Notably, Blocks W1 and W2 have successfully secured full planning permission, paving the way for anticipated commencement of construction on site in the upcoming year. Concurrently, plans are underway to submit Block W3 for planning approval in the near future, ensuring the comprehensive realization of the envisioned development.
